Cases for homicide and illegal possession of firearm[s] were already filed by the Talisay City Police against the elder brother of the Grade 7 student who was shot dead while answering her learning modules in Talisay City, Cebu.

Charges were filed in the afternoon of April 29, 2024 against the 21-year-old brother of 14-year-old Jacquelyn Reponte found to have hit his sister inside their residence when the gun went off accidentally based on the testimony of Evelyn, their mother.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Epream Paguyod, chief of the Talisay City Police, the regular filing of case was done after a verification on the recovered firearm proved it is unlicensed.

The 9mm revolver was recovered last April 28, 2024.

One of two persons taken under police custody led to the place where he hid the firearm that hit Jacquelyn dead in the cheek.

As of posting time, the suspect is still being tracked down. Police are hopeful the suspect will surrender.

“Tina-try nila na i-convince na susuko yung kapatid, base sa statement nga po ng nanay, hintayin po natin kung may lalapit po at maganda nga po kung susuko yung kapatid,” according to P/Lt. Col. Paguyod.

Further, cases for obstruction of justice are filed against the two persons, Reponte's close neighbors, who fabricated reportedly the earlier report that an unidentified man stormed inside the house and shot the girl at close range.

One of them is also charged for being “accessory [accessary] to the crime.”

Jacauelyn’s interment is set on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
