A 62-year-old woman was arrested with counterfeit cigarettes worth more than P2 million in Barangay Marapange, Kibawe, Bukidnon.

Police launched the operation after receiving a report from barangay officials that counterfeit cigarettes were in the area.

Confiscated from the suspect were 149 boxes and 18 reams of counterfeit cigarettes.

The suspect is facing charges for alleged violation of the Tax Reform Act (RA 8424).

Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Director, Brigadier General Ricardo Layug Jr., lauded the operating unit for the successful operation and reiterated the police’s relentless efforts in protecting the public from harmful counterfeit products.

“Let this successful operation serve as a reminder to all businesses and individuals to adhere to lawful practices and declare all products to the appropriate authorities. By doing so, we contribute to the preservation of public safety and the integrity of our markets,” Layug said.
