An injured Philippine long-tailed macaque was rescued in Barangay Olympog, General Santos City on Monday, May 6, 2024.

The macaque reportedl suffered from electric shock, according to the Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO).

The injured macaque was taken to the City Veterinary Clinic to determine the extent of its injuries but based on examination, the macaque had to have its hands and feet amputated due to the severity of the wounds. The surgery was scheduled on May 7, 2024.

An anti-tetanus shot was administered to the macaque.

“Philippine long-tailed Macaques, which are integral to the country's biodiversity, face escalating threats such as habitat loss, deforestation, and illegal wildlife trade. The rescue effort manifests that there is a need for collaboration to protect and conserve not just the Macaques but all vulnerable species,” the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-12 said.

The CENRO-General Santos City urged the public to report any sightings of distressed or endangered wildlife to local authorities.
