A grass fire broke out once again near the foot of Mayon Volcano in the vicinity of Camalig, Albay.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nine hours before putting it out.

There were no reported injuries, and no crops were affected by the fire.

Authorities suspect that the fire may have been caused by cigarette butts thrown in the area.

“Pumunta kami doon, may mga nakita kaming upos ng sigarilyo tapos yung balot ng chocolates, kaya possible na may nakakapunta doon na mga nagte-trail,” SFO4 Warren Orendain, Officer in Charge of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Camalig, said.

Meanwhile, another bushfire was logged near the boundary of Barangay Matanag and Bonga in Legazpi City, near the volcano’s foot.

Responding authorities were able to control the fire before it spread further.

Authorities are, as of this writing, investigating the cause of the fire in the area.

“Sa ngunian po, under investigation pa po yun su Bonga and Matanag area, ma-occular kami duman kasi hihilingon mi su extent kan damage,” SFO3 Madonna Rempillo, Chief Operation Officer of Legazpi City BFP, said.
