A tricycle driver died after his vehicle was hit by a car in Barangay Bued, Calasiao, Pangasinan, on May 13, 2024.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage shows the tricycle entering the right lane of the road from a corner when a speeding car crashed into it suddenly.

The impact was so strong that the tricycle and its driver was thrown off the road.

“Nawasak talaga [yung tricycle] sa sobrang lakas niya [ng impact], tumilapon pa ‘yung nakasakay sa tricycle,” Jun Coronel, an eyewitness, said.

The tricycle driver was brought to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries on May 14.

“Galing ng interior ang tricycle, si kotse naman nasa highway. Pumasok ang tricycle, hindi na siya napansin [ng driver ng kotse] dahil medyo madilim din,” PSMS Apollo Plandez, investigator from Calasiao Police Station, said.

According to the Barangay Council, based on the CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, the car was speeding and did not slow down.

“Walang ilaw at talagang mabilis daw, hindi namin alam kung taga-saan ‘yun [na driver ng kotse],” Marcial Perreras, the Barangay Councilman, said.

The police have detained the car's driver.

In response to the frequent accidents in the area, the Barangay Council conducted a clearing operation on the roads and sidewalks.

“Mahirap talaga, linggo-linggo na ang aksidente sa amin — konting ingat at tignan natin palagi ang tatawiran natin — kaya may clearing [operation],” Perreras said.
