The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) has declared closed the investigation on the case of a policeman in Sagay City who was shot dead allegedly by his own son using his service firearm.

The policeman was found dead inside his residence in Barangay Andres Bonifacio, Sagay City last April 27, 2024.

According to NOCPPO, they are awaiting the decision of the cop’s relatives on whether they would pursue filing charges against the suspect.

The cop's live-in partner, their 12-year-old child, and their seven-year-old son considered as persons of interest were found negative of gunpowder burns in a paraffin test.

However, according to the authorities the result of the test is not conclusive.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development will carry out a case study should the boy be proven to have fired the gun.

The case study will be on whether the boy acted with discernment when he fired a shot at his own father. The child will undergo further counseling before his mother takes back full custody of him, police said.
