Another mango grower in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, was forced to discard about five tons of mangoes with an estimated worth of P100,000 after failing to sell them and the fruits became overripe.

Ricardo Tolentino said his mangoes were stored in a truck for five days.

Due to the oversupply of mangoes in the market, he had no place to sell them. Some of the mangoes were also rejected for being overripe and starting to rot.

The local government unit (LGU) advised mango growers to distribute unsold mangoes to the community instead of discarding them.

Earlier on May 13, Frederick Cabayan, mango grower from San Mateo, Isabela was forced to discard nearly 3,000 kilos of mangoes because of the low selling price in the area.

Cabayan said the mangoes were being sold at only P5 per kilogram.
