A multicab that was plying along Ouano Avenue in Mandaue City, Cebu caught fire.

In a video taken by a netizen, it was seen that the blaze consumed the multicab at past 9 a.m. on May 19, 2024.

According to couple Efrillo and Madelyn Bantiles, multicab owners, they were traveling from Liloan town in north Cebu toward a supermarket in Cebu City.

While they were plying Quano Avenue, there were already motorists who called their attention on smoke billowing from the rear portion of the vehicle.

Efrillo maneuvered to the outermost lane of the road to park and check the multicab. However, when he went to the rear portion the flames burst. His wife jumped immediately out of the vehicle.

The couple was unscathed  but they worry about their economic losses. Aside from losing their multicab that was attached to their livelihood pursuits, they need to pay P8,000 for the towing services.

“Naay nag-busina namo nga mga motor ug truck nga ni-aso kuno among luyo. Mao to nagpadaplin ko. Nihunong ko, ninaog ko. Nitan-aw kos luyo, nya nisiga na man,” Efrillo said.

As of posting time, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. However, SFO1 Filward Morales, fire investigator at Mandaue City Fire Station, said that electrical wiring possibly has something to do with the incident.

“Sa mga second hand nga sakyanan among mensahe dapat ug magpa-wiring, i-check gyud og tarong. Kinahanglan suheto sa mga electrical wiring bitaw,” Morales said.
