Some vendors at the Agdao Farmer’s Market in Davao City have complained about the high rental fee and slippery floor, which reportedly affected their sale.
A fish vendor said their previous space is better than the new public market.
“Ma-aksyonan na nila ning among flooring nga perteng danloga. Ang tao diri mamalengke, magkinto magdala’g cellophane,” fish vendor, Denden Magnum, said.
“Usahay tamaron ko og musulod kay mag (takiang) ta ug lakaw kay danlog. Unya kay kulang na ko sa panimbang kay naay deperensya ang batiis. Mao nang usahay didto na lang ko mamalengke sa daplin daplin,” a consumer, Manuel Alonzo, added.
The management of the Agdao Farmer’s Market said the lack of drainage canal inside the market caused the wet floor. The new market was turned over based on its design, but market sweepers have already been assigned.
“As part sa City Economic Enterprise, if you notice, there’s a presence of our market sweepers. But some of the vendors, medyo lax din sila because the manner of them selling, kahit saan lang sila naga-wisik-wisik ng kanilang tubig,” Market Supervisor, Gerardo Castillo, said.
Aside from slippery floor, vendors also complained about the high rental fee.
However, the management said the rental fee is just right as it underwent thorough review by the local government before it was implemented.
Castillo said the rental fee slightly increased because of the space occupied.
“Medyo tumaas lang ang rate niya because the space occupied, lumaki na po kasi compared to the old market, and then the basis for our rental is the same ang rate times per square meter,” Castillo added.
