A dump truck about to be loaded on a barge nearly fell off a port in the Province of Negros Oriental.
The incident at Tampi port in Amlan town happened at 4:30 p.m. on May 20, 2024.
A video recorded by a passenger of the barge showed that the rear portion of the dump truck already hit seawaters.
According to Dante Uymatiao, owner of the shipping company, the accident was largely because of human error.
“There was a miscommunication ra gyud sa barge ug sa tawo ba, nya wala pa mahugot maayo sa atubangan nga ramp ba, so pagsulod sa truck, ni-atras ang barge, there was really an accident. It was really human error and accident that happened,” Uymatiao said.
It took reportedly three hours to put the dump truck back safely at the port.
Sacks of sand loaded to the truck had to be removed manually to make the truck lighter and easier to pull.
No damage to the truck was observed; it proceeded with its trip.
Nobody was reported hurt in the incident.
Uymatiao vowed to shoulder the cost of wasted sand.
Oil spills boooms were placed immediately around the barge as a precautionary measure.
Uymatiao assured that mitigating measures will be in place to prevent a similar incident.
