A total of 26 teachers experienced dizziness, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea after allegedly eating fresh lumpia during a seminar in Dagupan City.
The teachers were taken immediately to the nearest hospital.
According to the City Health Office, 21 of them were treated as outpatients, one was admitted but discharged after a day, and four did not require hospitalization because their symptoms were mild.
The Department of Education (DepEd) said 277 participated in the seminar.
"Naghahanda kasi tayo sa implementasyon ng MATATAG Curriculum. Ito ay i-implement sa upcoming school year. Sa report ng SGOD (School Governance and Operations Division) Chief, two hours lang sila nanatili sa ospital at lumabas din sila agad," Cesar Bucsit, DepEd-1 Spokesperson, said.
The teachers are now in stable condition.
The City Health Office has taken samples of the fresh lumpia for testing.
"Kasi, kung ganun na food poisoning, we have to determine ‘yung common denominator kung ano ang food na nakain ng lahat," Dr. Ophelia Rivera, Dagupan City Health Officer, said.
The City Health Office is also identifying the provider of the fresh lumpia.
“Under investigation pa rin, we are still waiting for the result ng pina-test namin na food sample,” Rivera said.
No statement has been issued by the Schools Division Office of Dagupan City as of this writing.
Rivera reminded the public about proper food handling practices.
"Mag-ingat sa mga pagkain na prini-prepare natin. ‘Yung pagkain natin, huwag hayaang naiinitan or under sa mataas na temperatura," she said.
