At least 18 persons figured in an accident when a jeepney they boarded in tipped on its side in the town of Alimodian, Province of Iloilo.

According to police investigators, the victims were on their way home from Barangay Poblacion where they attended a burial rites. Upon reaching an upland area in Barangay Pajo (Pa-hô), they figured in an accident.

According to the driver, who was also hurt, the brakes malfunctioned.

The victims were rushed to the hospital. Despite the accident, no passenger suffered from serious injuries.

The police reiterated that motorists should always check the condition of their vehicles for roadworthiness before their scheduled trips and to always avoid overloading. 

“Mabagal naman ang kanilang takbo but then, nawalan ng preno. Siguro, posibleng nag-panic ang driver at nakabig pakaliwa ang sasakyan,” Police Captain Chrysler John Ledesma, chief of Alimodian Police Municipal Station, said.
