The mother and the sister of a student from the Lapu-Lapu City College in Cebu received on his behalf his diploma and medal on graduation day.

Michael Alcoseba, the student, was supposed to graduate Cum Laude had he not succumbed to complications of pneumonia.

The honor of graduating Cum Laude in Hospitality Management was conferred upon the 22-year-old Alcoseba along with his college degree. His mother and sister received the diploma and the medal on May 29, 2024.

Congresswoman Cindi King-Chan who graced the event along with Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, as honored guests, extended her deepest sympathy to the family.

“Medyo na emotional sad gyud ganina sa dihang gitawag na ang pangalan ni Michael Alcoseba o mas nailhan natong “Kikil,” nga wala na intawn nakaabot sa iyang graduation day kay naa naman siya sa kiliran sa atong Labawng Makagagahum,” Chan said in a social media post.

Alcoseba was the vice president of the Lapu-Lapu City Performing Arts.

He was active in big school activities aside from being a working student.

Alcoseba was admitted at the hospital on April 24, 2024 and expired on May 11, 2024.

His family refused an interview, but allowed the news team access to photographs as support materials to the news report.

Dr. Nena Capitan, program chaiperson of Hospitality Management at Lapu-Lapu City College, said that the death of Alcoseba came as a shock to them.

"Na-shock jud mi tanan kay healthy man to siya, active kaayo. Wala mi magdahom nga ingon na diay to adto ka-worse ang iyang sakit ba. Michael is a big loss sa amo-a," Dr. Capitan said.
