The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) in Dagupan City is grappling with persistent illegal parking problems in several barangays, despite frequent clearing efforts.
"Lilinisin namin ang illegal parking – malilinis siya ng isang araw, tapos mamaya marami na naman ang nakaparada diyan sa gilid-gilid," Rexon de Vera, Deputy Chief of POSO, said.
Barangay officials urged POSO to issue citation tickets to vehicles parked along the roadside, as this constitutes a clear violation.
On Don Jose de Venecia Road in Barangay Uno, private vehicles were seen parked blatantly along the road.
Residents even set up clotheslines in the remaining space, making it difficult for vehicles to pass.
"Last month, nag-clearing kami, nalinisan din talaga, pero [pagkatapos ng] isang linggo lang [ay] ganyan ulit – sinabihan na namin ang mga motorista," Herminigildo Rosal, the Barangay Chairman, said.
Dan Dumo, a resident, said they end up parking their vehicles on the side of the road since they have nowhere else to park.
"Mahirap… saan kami paparada? Siyempre hahanap kami sa gilid-gilid nalang," he said.
POSO believes the best solution to address the problem is for the barangays to pass its own ordinances on issuance of citation tickets and imposition of fines on violators.
