At least eight detainees escaped the custodial facility of the San Jose Del Monte City Police Station in Bulacan on June 3, 2024.
Two of the eight were caught during the escape attempt while two others were rearrested during a manhunt operation.
As of June 4, four others remain at large, as of this writing.
Authorities initiated a coordinated dragnet operation and issued a flash alarm at the Bulacan Provincial Tactical Operations Center to expedite the search.
Police said the detainees smuggled a handsaw into the custodial facility and used it for their escape.
”Yung walong inmates po na iyon, kaya po sila nakatakas, yung metal window sa likuran sa bahagi ng CR [ay] linagari po nila iyon gamit po yung lagari na bakal," PMAJ. Norheda Usman, Chief of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, said.
Police are investigating how the detainees were able to smuggle it into the facility.
"Based on the investigation, hindi man po sila nagsasalita, yung lahat po ng nakatakas yung dalawa – diba walo sila – yung dalawa nahuli [dahil] naabutan ng salabas ng [pulis]. May CCTV (closed circuit television) footage kasi doon sa aktwal na pagtakas," Usman added.
