Up to 177 people were arrested in Caraga region for alleged illegal fishing activities.

The Police Regional Office-Caraga (PRO13) said the 177 people were arrested during police operations from May 16 to 31, 2024.

The Dinagat Islands Provincial Police Office had 50 apprehensions followed by the Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office with 46.

The Agusan del Norte Provincial Police Office arrested 42 people; the Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Office arrested 26; and the Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Office nabbed 13 violators.

The PRO-13 Regional Operations Division said various police units carried out 161 anti-illegal fishing operations, which resulted in the confiscation of 484.45 kilos of marine resources worth around P102,608.

“We ensure that our law enforcement operations include the protection of our natural and marine resources. Those who abuse and destroy these assets will be held accountable for their violations,” PRO-13 Director, Brigadier General Alan Nazarro, said.
