The third day of demolition in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, was carried out peacefully with the presence of the military and police.
Members of the Civil Disturbance Management of Cagayan de Oro City composed of the Cagayan de Oro City Police (COCPO) and Task Force Oro of the Philippine Army arrived to provide security for the demolition team.
Some residents were also arrested for allegedly throwing stones and bottles at the demolition team when the tension erupted on Tuesday, June 4.
“Kagahapon lang gi-prepare na nato ang kaso direct assault with frustrated murder in relation sa pag implement aning writ of demolition,” COCPO Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Evan Viñas, said.
The barangay council assured that the nearly 300 families affected by the demolition will be taken care of. A five-hectare property will be provided to the affected residents as relocation site.
“Kana man gud nga area sir medyo rolling so ipatag, forever na gyud sila didto,” Barangay Lumbia Councilwoman Violeta Tejor said.
The City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD) of the local government has also conducted a dialogue with the affected residents.
“Naa ta mga ongoing projects karon intended sa mga nanginahanglan ug balay nga mo apply ug mo qualify mao na ang mahatag nga assistance sa atong siyudad,” CHUDD Manager, Atty. Samuel Rollo, said.
