At least 50 individuals trooped to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 on June 7, 2024 to file complaints against an alleged bogus wedding planner.
The engaged couples and wedding suppliers signed up for wedding coordination services, but later doubted the legitimacy of the “wedding planner” as the person could not be reached anymore after receiving payment.
A couple said their wedding is set on June 22, 2024. They were bent on availing of a supposed simple and hassle-free wedding for they have jobs to attend to.
However, their world seems to crumble, they said, upon learning of a breach in agreement with the wedding coordinator after they settled payments.
Other couples shared in the story, saying they are excited for their big day as well after paying over P100,000 to the coordinator.
The complainants reasoned out that they were enticed to avail of the coordiantor's services because of a wedding package amounting to P125,000 good for 100 persons that already covers the food, reception at a prominent hotel, garments for the entourage, and other services that would offer convenience, so that the concern of the bride would narrow down to just walking down the aisle and for the groom to wait at the altar and savor the big day.
But they got the shock of their life upon learning that there are other couples who have been allegedly duped by the wedding planner.
NBI reminded the public never to trust promotions that are "too good to be true."
NBI 7 Special Agent Maria Contessa Lastimosa said that promotions that are too good to be true is already a red flag.
"Mo-exercise gyud ta og due diligence especially sa social media lang nato makit-an," Lastimosa said.
Most of the complainants trusted the coordinator as according to them previous events had been successful based on referral of their acquaintances.
The complainants said they seek the return of their hard-earned money so they can start looking for other planners.
Atty. Dominador Cimafranca, assistant regional director of NBI 7, said they will assist the complainants in the further pursuit of a case should the wedding planner continue to disregard the clients.
Cimafranca said that most of the wedding schedules are yet in the later part of the month; that there is still enough time for the wedding coordinator to show up and settle the issue.
However, should the coordinator fail in his/her obligations based on what was agreed, the case will be filed.
GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak reached out for the wedding planner's comment. However, as of posting time, the news team is still waiting for a reply.
