At least 22 barangays in Cagayan de Oro were issued with final notice of violation for alleged failure to implement the city’s “No segregation, No collection” policy.

The Cagayan de Oro City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) said most of the barangays that violated the ordinance are in the hinterlands.

The ordinance, which took effect on March 1, 2024, is a measure to protect the environment.

“Ang ato ana gyud is malimpyo ang atong syudad and then madefine gyud og ayo kung unsa ang role ni brgy ug unsa ang role ni syudad,” CLENRO Head, Engr. Armen Cuenca, said.

Among the barangays that received the notice is Lapasan. The barangay council has explained to CLENRO the difficulties it faces in implementing the ordinance.

A barangay official said the barangay’s waste management program has since been in place.

“So gienganyo nato, hatag ta og bugas para ma-inform sila niining nasangpit nga ordinansa nga kinahanglan gyud i-segregate ang katong dili malata, malata o recyclables,” Barangay Lapasan Spokesperson, Jeoffrey Baconga, said.

CLENRO has given the 22 barangays until June 18 to show how they implemented the ordinance.

“Dili ko gusto nga ma-politicize ang hisgutanan sa basura muna dapat bahalag kinsa ang kapitan o kinsa ang mayor kinahanglan nga dapat consistent ta sa pagpatuman,” Cuenca said.
