Booking a tricycle ride online will soon be implemented in Zamboanga City as part of the local government’s plan to modernize the transport system in the city.

The local government and a mobility platform company have inked an agreement that would enable commuters to book tricycle rides online using an application.

The exact fare and point of destination will be reflected in the application once a commuter books a ride.

“Once maka-book naka, makita na ang amount sa plite, kung asa padulong ang pasahero. Medyo high-tech but nonetheless, as mentioned by mayor, this would be the game changer… naa na ta sa future, nanginahanglan na ta og mga application through internet,” City Administrator, Atty. Wendel Sotto, said.

According to the local government, this is also a measure to address the problem on overcharging of tricycle drivers.

“Usa sa purpose aron paubusun, tanggangun, ang overcharging kay mao na ang mga reklamo sa mga riding consumer,” Sotto added.

However, some tricycle drivers are opposing the new system, for now, as they need to understand the system fully.

“Tan-awon namo, medyo dili kame lugi, okay lang apan kung lugi kami, dili mi pwede makaingon, oo... wala pa sa amo nag-meeting,” Joey Parcon, tricycle driver, said.

“Dili pa sure siguro, kung ipatuman na wala tay mahimo musunod ra ta,” another tricycle driver added.

The local government is set to conduct a mass orientation in June for the first 600 tricycle drivers who have a franchise.
