A 20-year-old student in Ormoc City is in critical condition after a chunk of concrete from a portion of a church bell tower hit her badly.
The incident happened at Saints Peter and Paul Parish Church in the afternoon of June 13, 2024.
According to police investigation, the student was standing at the church door while waiting for a friend who was lighting up a candle in prayer inside the church.
Suddenly, a piece of concrete material fell reportedly from the church belfry, and hit her on the head. The impact knocked her out.
The student was found to have sustained a huge wound on her head.
Churchgoers who saw the incident rushed to help her. The unconscious student was taken immediately to the hospital.
According to Rev. Fr. Daniel Hilvano, the parish church will shoulder all of the student's medical expenses.
As of posting time, the condition of the student is being monitored after she went through an operation.
