A man onboard his motorcycle was ran over by a container truck in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City past 4 p.m. on June 13, 2024.

The motorcycle driver tried reportedly to overtake the vehicle. However, he lost control of his motorcycle and was ran over by the truck.

The motorcycle driver was identified as Joemarie Maniego, 60 years old, a “kagawad” (councilman) of Barangay Banago. He sustained a fatal injury on his head.

Bacolod City Police arrested alias “Rodrigo,” the 59-year-old truck driver from Victorias City, Negros Occidental on June 14, 2024. But he was set out of jail pending the decision of the Maniego family on whether to pursue a case on reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.

“18 hours ang reglementary period so ni-release talaga namin. If the family opted to file criminal charges we can do so on a regular filing (basis),” according to Captain Rondyl Tapang, chief of Police Station 3, in a phone interview.
