A 43-year-old man was caught using illegal drugs by a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent inside a restroom near the PDEA office in Naga City, Camarines Sur.
"[Gagamit] sana siya [yung PDEA agent] ng comfort room for his personal necessities. Chance upon, he was surprised na while entering the comfort room, nakita niya itong certain individual who is sniffing illegal drugs. Immediately, sinita niya," IA V. Mark Anthony Viray, Provincial Officer of PDEA Camarines Sur, said.
The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended when a passing patrol from Naga City Police Office (NCPO) Station 5 intervened.
It was revealed that the suspect is also a beggar.
The suspect admitted that he used the money he collected from begging to buy illegal drugs, which reportedly used as pain reliever for his leg condition.
"Igdi po kaya sa bitis ko, nagkukulog ini minsan, kaya bumukol. Kapag nakagamit ning drugs, nawawara ang kulog," the suspect said.
The suspect now faces charges for alleged violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, and is currently in custody of NCPO Station 1.
According to NCPO, the police station in charge of the area where the man was arrested will file the case.
"Kapag accidentally po kasi, minsan, ‘yung coordination, immaterial na din kasi inflagrante – hindi siya planado. Iniistriktohan ang coordination sa planned operations, but ‘yung mandatory witness, nire-require pa rin ng batas as to the inventory and pag-handle ng ebidensya," PLTCOL. Chester Pomar, Public Information Officer of NCPO, said.
