A 24-year-old woman who was on vacation at her parents' home in Gerona, Tarlac, died when she was hit by a stray bullet that came allegedly from a police operation.

Authorities were arresting suspects of alleged illegal gun sale in the area.

The operation resulted in multiple gunshots being fired. The stray bullets also hit several houses and animals in the vicinity.

The woman was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Her one-year-old child was unharmed.

"Hinabol daw po 'yung anak niya [na] tumakbo… siguro, yung pagtakbo niya, may tama na siya kasi nandito sila nakahiga [sa duyan] eh," Philippina Gragasin, the victim's mother, said.

One suspect was arrested and claimed innocence.

"Wala po akong alam kasi magtatanim lang po ako ng palay tapos may narinig akong putok, kaya tumakbo ako," the suspect said.

The other subjects of the police operation remain at large, as of this writing.

Police said five firearms of various calibers were seized during the operation.

The family of the victim is calling for justice, something the PNP said it would get.

The police officers involved in the entrapment operation underwent paraffin and ballistic examinations.

PCOL. Miguel Guzman, Provincial Director of the Tarlac Police Provincial Office (PPO), said they will not condone the cops who may be found involved in the woman’s death.
