A 10-year-old boy drowned in a river in Barangay Pangao, Lipa City, Batangas after he went swimming reportedly even against his father's advice.

"Sabi ko, huwag ka kako tutuloy doon, baka ika'y malunod gawa ng ikaw ay may ano, epileptic. Asang-asa po akong hindi tumuloy at siya ay nasa bakuran [na] naglalaro, ba't itong pagkaano niya, bigla siyang umalis," Ernelito Reyes, the victim's father, said.

Reyes said his son joined some kids who jumped into the river to swim.

"May nagsabi doon na nu’ng magtalunan ‘yung mga batang naglalaro naliligo doon [ay] sumabay siya sa pagtalon," Reyes said.

According to the police, the boy may have hit his head on a rock before he drowned.

Locals in the area helped retrieve the boy's body from the river.

"Noong maiahon siya doon sa tubig, merong nakitang injury sa ulo. Meron siyang parang mga bukol na mayroong putok na doon sa parte ng ulo niya," PCPT. Ricardo Cuevas, Chief Investigator of Lipa Component City Police, said.

The family has accepted the accident.

Police reminded parents to always keep an eye on their children.
