A 10-wheel truck loaded with sacks of cement sideswiped a tricycle and rammed into a bank in Barili town, Cebu Province.
The incident happened at past 2 p.m. on June 22, 2024.
Police Master Sergeant Gilbert Encabo, investigator at the Barili Police Station, in an interview with GMA Super Radyo Cebu, disclosed that the truck was from Cebu City and was bound for Negros Oriental via the wharf in Barangay Tangil, Dumanjug town.
However, upon reaching Barangay Santa Ana in Barili, the driver said the brakes of the truck malfunctioned, and that he lost control of the vehicle.
The truck sideswiped a tricycle that tipped over and wounded five passengers including the driver.
The 10-wheel truck hit a parked Bongo-type truck (an ultra low-floor multipurpose vehicle) and another parked vehicle before it rammed onto a government-run bank in Barangay Poblacion.
A 66-year-old woman who was walking at the roadside was hit by sacks of cement that fell off the truck. The senior citizen sustained injuries.
All persons wounded were taken immediately to the Barili Infirmary Hospital.
According to Master Sergeant Encabo of the Barili Police Station, all persons who sustained injuries have already been dispensed from the hospital, as of posting time.
