A motorcycle rider died while four others were injured after several vehicles collided in Barangay Pulong Niogan, Mabini, Batangas.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage shows a white van and a tricycle swerving abruptly to avoid a speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV).

The van managed to evade the SUV, but the tricycle and the motorcycle behind it were struck by the speeding vehicle. The motorcycle was thrown off the road, ejecting its rider in the process.

Emergency responders rushed the injured rider to a hospital in Mabini, Batangas, but he was pronounced dead on arrival upon transfer to another hospital in Batangas City.

Police said the SUV driver admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane.

Arwin Baby Caimbon, Chief of Mabini Police Station, said.

The four occupants of the tricycle, including its driver, sustained injuries. They are now reported to be in stable condition.

The SUV driver is facing multiple charges.

The remains of the motorcycle rider have been brought back to the rider’s home in Barangay Calamias in Mabini.

Authorities remind motorists to refrain from driving if feeling unwell or fatigued to prevent accidents.
