At least 30 households in Sitio Tarcum at the boundary of Barangays Lahug and Busay in Cebu City have been evacuated at the barangay gymnasium after a landslide hit the area.
The evacuation procedure is based on the recommendation of Quick Response Team (QRT) responders of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The evacuation was recommended after a concrete wall fell when the soil eroded because of the successive downpour.
A tree has stopped the perimeter wall from falling any farther, but because of the weather condition, any movement of the soil poses a hazard to residents below.
As of posting time, it was learned that rocks that rolled away because of the unstable soil condition hit chicken coops and an “abohan” (hearth) of a house.
For the safety of residents, Van Carlo Tudtud, QRT responder, advised that residents be evacuated to the barangay gym especially at nighttime.
The residents agreed to the arrangement based on the feedback of Busay barangay responder Joel Romero Umboy.
Earlier, barangay staff members of Lahug carried out a profiling of residents affected by the landslide.
