Several areas in Davao City were flooded due to intermittent rains since Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Floodwaters that reached almost to the waist was experienced at a portion of a subdivision in Barangay Baliok after the water in the creek overflowed. Pieces of wood were also seen floating in the flooded street.

“Diri sa amoa naay nadamage diri nga fence unya didto sa Deca pud nasulod atong tubig. Pero karong duha ka baha dili kaayo kusog kaayo dili pareha atong niaging 2023 November 8, mao toy pinaka-kusog gyud nga baha,” Barangay Baliok Chairman, Ricky Liparanon, said.

A bridge in Barangay Bankas Heights in Toril District could no longer be seen after it was covered by floodwaters.

A rescue team from the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) had to use a rope to guide residents in crossing the bridge.

Three families have evacuated.

“Overflowed na tapos ang mga tao dili na sila katabok unless walay assistance. So, mao nga nagconduct mi og kuan, nagbutang mi og pisi para makatabok gyud sila with the assistance sa mga responders,” BDRRMC Head, Richard Baguio, said.

Other barangays affected were Bago Gallera and Bago Aplaya, according to the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

CDRRMO has conducted rapid damage assessment and needs analysis together with the City Engineer’s Office in the flooded areas.

“Mao to ang ilahang gitan-aw kung unsa ang kinahanglang changes changes aning sa kanal ug immediate action ani,” Baguio added.

Meanwhile, a landslide hit Barangay Bag-ong Argao in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur due to heavy rains on Monday, June 24.

A house was damaged and a goat was covered by soil when the landslide happened.

The area is now passable after clearing operations were conducted.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, Mindanao will continue to experience rains due to the easterlies.
