An encounter between soldiers and alleged members of the New People's Army (NPA) in Sitio Maligas, Barangay Bolbok, Tuy, Batangas resulted in the deaths of two members of the NPA.

According to the Southern Luzon Command, the 59th Infantry Battalion was conducting security patrol in the area when they received reports of armed groups in the barangay.

It was estimated that nine armed NPA members, suspected to be associates of Ka Arya, considered a leader in Southern Luzon, clashed with the soldiers.

Several firearms believed to belong to the deceased NPA members were recovered at the scene, including M16 rifles, an Uzi sub-machine gun, an R4 rifle, and improvised grenades.

Approximately 100 residents were evacuated temporarily and are housed in the Barangay Hall and covered court of Barangay Bolbok. Local authorities and the police have provided them with relief goods.

The Southern Luzon Command continues to pursue the companions of those killed.

Col. Dennis Caña, Chief Public Information Officer of the Southern Luzon Command, urged the remaining suspects to surrender.

"At this time, papalapit na, nasa Tuy, Batangas na ‘yung tropa ng remnants ni Arya. Matagal na po kaming nananawagan na magbalik-loob na sila. Noong kausap naming si Arya, nakikiusap ako sa kanila na magbalik-loob na, bago mangyari ang masama," Caña said.

Ka Arya, along with two men, was killed in an encounter in Rosario, Batangas.

"Sumakabilang-buhay na po si Arya, panawagan po ng Southern Luzon Command sa mga natitira pang nandyan,magbalik-loob na po kayo," he added.
