Over 20,000 families have been affected by the massive flooding in Maguindanao del Sur.

Floodwaters in some areas have yet to subside as of July 4, 2024, a week after rains dumped water in the province. Floodwaters have also entered some houses, schools, and barangay halls.

Some motorists were also stranded because of the floodwaters that almost reached the waist.

According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), 12 out of 24 towns in the province have been affected by flood.

These include Pagalungan, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Datu Montawal, Paglat, Sultan sa Barongis, Ampatuan, Sharrif Aguak, Sharrif Saydona Mustapha, Gen S.K. Pendatun, Datu Salibo, Mamasapano, and Datu Piang.

Some of the flood victims have stayed with their relatives as evacuation centers were also flooded.

DRRMO added that rivers have also overflowed.

No casualty was reported as residents were quick to evacuate.

The local government has started assessing the damage and, as of this writing, is set to distribute assistance to flood survivors.

The bad weather experienced in the province is caused by intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
