A man was reported missing after a landslide hit Barangay Guinlin in Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur following persistent rains.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the man may have been buried in the landslide.

Authorities have started a search and retrieval operation.

A separate landslide also hit Barangay Begong following heavy rains on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Because of the incident, several motorists were stranded as soil and rocks blocked the road.

The area only became passable in the evening after personnel of the MDRRMO and the police cleared the area.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the easterlies and localized thunderstorms caused the heavy rains experienced in the province.

Authorities reminded the public anew to be vigilant this rainy season.

“Magbinantayon lang kanunay ilabi na karong (ting-ulan). Maglikay sa flood-prone area ug landslide-prone area nga dili magpaduol,” Tigbao MDRRM Officer, Nerie Robles, said.
