A spillway that connects two remote barangays in Opol, Misamis Oriental was damaged following continuous rains.
A video footage showed floodwaters causing the spillway to overflow when heavy rains poured. Residents had to put up a barricade to ensure the safety of motorists.
A few hours later, a portion of the spillway collapsed due to the raging waters.
The spillway connects Barangays Tingalan and Bagocboc, two of the far-flung barangays in Opol town.
“Mga three tons, two tons delikado na kaayo mga tricab, motor puwede siya maka agi pero kung inyong malantaw karon lisod na gyud siya kay delikado na gyud siya,” Bagocboc Chairman Pepe Langala said.
Heavy vehicles carrying agricultural products have difficulty passing through the area for fear that the remaining part of the spillway might give in.
Village watchmen are deployed temporarily to assist and guide motorists.
Meanwhile, a lane of the main road in Barangay Tingalan also collapsed following continuous rains.
“Manawagan unta mi sa kontraktor ani nga dalan tungod kay peligro ni sa among mga katawhan sa brgy. Tingalan. Unta ilang makita unsay sitwasyon sa atong kadalanan karon kay ug naay mo agi basin dili taga diri basin mahulog ug peligro ang ilang kinabuhi,” Barangay Tingalan Councilman Uldarico Paborada said.
Personnel of the Provincial Engineering Office already checked the damaged infrastructure projects.
Authorities advised the residents to be careful in passing through the area, especially during a downpour.
