Heavy rains from Typhoon Carina caused flooding and forced the evacuation of nearly 100 individuals in Cagayan Province.

Several areas in Gonzaga and Sta. Ana experienced flooding, while rainwater inundated Libertad National High School in Abulug.

In Baggao, the Pared River overflowed, rendering the Bagunot Bridge impassable.

”Mahirap kasi antaas ng tubig sa ilog,” Ruby Delos Santos, a resident, said.

Some residents had to use a boat to pass through the area.

“Mabuti at may bangka kung wala hindi na kami makadaan,” Edmundo Estanislao, another resident, added.

If the current becomes too strong, boat travel will be prohibited.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) is closely monitoring the river's water level.

In Baggao, several mung bean crops, which were due for harvest at the end of the month, were also affected by the flooding.

“Hindi na mapakinabangan ‘yan, sayang,” Renante De Leon, a farmer, said.

Authorities are keeping a close watch on six towns due to the rains caused by Typhoon Carina, combined with the southwest monsoon.

These towns include Peñablanca, Lal-lo, Baggao, Gonzaga, Gattaran, and Sta. Ana.

“Since magdamag ang buhos ng ulan we are expecting na ‘yung volume ng tubig na bumuhos sa Sierra Madre ay babagsak dito sa Cagayan,” Ruelie Rapsing, Cagayan Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, said.

A no-sailing and no-fishing policy remains in effect along Cagayan’s coastal areas.
