Shortage of classrooms persists.

At the Iloilo City National High School (ICNHS), for example, with the largest population to date in Iloilo City at 6,664 enrollees, the administrators had to create additional class sections and increase the class size from what was around 45 learners to about 55 learners.

Despite the 171 classrooms, ICNHS needs an additional 60 classrooms to accommodate its growing number of students.

Class hours have also been adjusted such as special programs and senior high school from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Grades 7 and 8 take the 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. class schedule, while Grades 9 and 10 take the 1:10 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. sked.

According to data furnished by the Department of Education Region VI, the enrollees for School Year 2024-2025 logged 1,284,918 as of July 24, 2024. This is expected to rise further with late enrollees coming in.

The number expects to surpass the figure of enrollment in the previous school year at over two million learners.

In Bacolod City, enrollees at the Negros Occidental High School reached over 9,000. The latest school population challenges the adequacy of classrooms, thus classes for Junior High School are set for the whole day, while Senior High School takes half-day.

The learners will also switch to Blended Learning Mode.
