Classes of over 200 grade seven students of East Central Integrated School in Dagupan City are affected by the presence of floodwater in five of their classrooms.

The flooding is reportedly caused by high tide. The school is located near a river.

"Sobrang hirap ‘yung pagpunta ng mga estudyante sa classroom, nahirapan sila," Christian Barrozo, a teacher, said.

In response to the flooding, students were relocated temporarily to the laboratory room and other available facilities in the school.

"Naghanap talaga kami ng mga pwedeng paglipatan sa kanila na classroom," Barrozo said.

Parents, like Esperanza Amansec, have expressed concern and are urging the school to transfer students to classrooms not on the ground floor.

"Dapat talaga i-transfer sila sa mas mataas na classroom para hindi mahirapan ang mga bata," Amansec said.

School equipment was elevated so they will not get wet.

The school administration has reached out to the local government and the Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office 1 to find a solution to the problem.

DepEd is now monitoring the situation.

"Ongoing ang monitoring na isinasagawa ng ating mga key officials sa mga schools and division offices na kinabibilangan ng mga curriculum implementation and division personnel, likewise mga personnel ng school governance operations and division," Cesar Bucsit, head of the Public Affairs Unit at DepEd-1, said.
