A price freeze on basic necessities is in effect in Antipas, Cotabato after the town has declared a state of calamity due to the effects of the African Swine Fever (ASF).
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Cotabato said the 60-day price freeze will remain in force until September 26, 2024 or until the state of calamity is lifted.
The Sangguniang Bayan of Antipas passed a resolution on July 29, 2024 placing the town under a state of calamity due to the impact of ASF.
According to the provincial government, at least 13 barangays in Antipas were affected.
These barangays are Poblacion, Magsaysay, Kiyaab, Malire, Datu Agod, Luhong, New Pontevedra, Malatab, Malangag, Dolores, Camutan, B. Cadungon, and Canaan.
DTI urged consumers to report grocery stores or retailers that sell basic necessities beyond the prices specified.
DTI added that under the Price Act, retailers found selling more than the prevailing prices may face administrative fine of up to P1 million and may be imprisoned to a maximum of 10 years.
Data from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet) showed that up to 56 barangays from Kidapawan City and the towns of Arakan, Antipas, Pigcawayan, M’lang, Tulunan, Kabacan, Makilala, Pres. Roxas, and Malatam in Cotabato have been affected by ASF, as of August 5, 2024.
