A block of shabu was found by a fisherman in the waters between Abulug and Ballesteros in Cagayan.
The fisherman thought initially that it was a cleaning product but decided to report it to authorities.
The packaging of the shabu, which is light blue with Chinese markings, matched the packaging of those found in the Ilocos region.
Similar items were also found in other towns in the province.
“Magkahawig at magkakatulad ‘yung mga narekober [na] itong shabu, na narekober sa bayan ng Sanchez at bayan ng Aparri,” PCPT Jun-Jun Tario, Deputy Chief of Abulug Police Station, said.
Laboratory tests confirmed the substance as shabu, weighing 907.55 grams with an estimated value of P6.4 million.
The item is now in the custody of the Regional Forensic Unit, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) has formed a task group to investigate further.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 2 plans to reward the fisherman who found the shabu. The fisherman is a recipient of the government’s 4Ps program.
The PNP urges fishermen to report other finds immediately to authorities.
