Students at Dagupan City National High School are facing challenges adjusting to reduced class times as the school implements a double shifting schedule to address a classroom shortage.
Previously, each subject had a one-hour class, but this has now been reduced to 45 minutes.
"Kulang sa amin yung 45 minutes, kulang pa yung lessons na nati-teach nila sa 45 minutes na ‘yun. Doon sa dating time nakakaya ng one whole lesson, ngayon yung isang lesson kailangan ng three meetings," Venice Ariannah Natividad, a Grade 8 student, said.
"Nahihirapan [kami] mag-adjust kasi limited lang yung time [na] 45 minutes. Minsan inaayos yung TV (television)... nauubos na [doon] 'yung 10 minutes," Ivan Heteroza, a Grade 10 student, added.
Teachers, too, are adapting to the new schedule, trying to fit lessons into the 45-minute period effectively.
"Medyo mabilis kasi yung 45 minutes, though everyday 'yung pagmi-meet namin. So kailangan talagang planuhin. Doon papasok ang creativity [at] diskarte ng mga teachers, kung paano planuhin ang kanilang lesson," Jayson Cansino, a Teacher III at the school, said.
The double shifting system was introduced to address the lack of classroom space, with the school currently accommodating around 6,500 students this 2024-2025 school year.
"As of now kulang pa rin kami ng classrooms to cover the total number of enrollees, umaabot na ngayon ng 6,500 for both Junior and Senior, kaya naka-double shift pa rin kami," Willy Guieb, Principal of Dagupan City National High School, said.
