Two young persons died in a vehicular accident involving a passenger jeepney that tipped over in the vicinity of a ravine in Leon town, Province of Iloilo.

The incident happened at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in Barangay Cagay.

The two casualties are a five-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy. 

According to Maricar, the mother of the five-year-old girl  and aunt of the 13-year-old boy, the driver lost control of the jeepney while it was plying on a slippery part of the road. The vehicle fell into a ditch, but tipped over on impact.

She said that the girl was sitting on her lap when the incident happened. For a while, Maricar said, she seemed to be knocked out, but when she regained consciousness she saw that her child was limp with a big wound on the head.

The victims were rushed to the hospital, but were declared there dead on arrival for having sustained fatal wounds. 

It was learned that the vehicle carried about 20 passengers who are students mostly.

The rest of the victims who sustained injuries were referred to the Aleosan District Hospital.
