Two Chinese nationals and a Filipino were arrested with alleged smuggled cigarettes worth around P2 million at a checkpoint in Davao City afternoon on Monday, August 12, 2024.

Police said the two foreigners, 30 and 37 years old, are from Davao de Oro and Manila, while the 51-year-old Filipino is from Davao City.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, police established the checkpoint after receiving reports that a vehicle was transporting smuggled and fake cigarettes.

Authorities intercepted a truck loaded with 8,500 reams of assorted cigarettes worth around P2 million.

The suspects allegedly failed to present documents for the vehicle and for the cargo.

They are now detained and will face charges for violation of traffic rules and The Graphic Health Warnings Law (RA 10643).
