The getaway vehicle used by robbers after a heist on two jewelry stores in Cebu City was recovered in Mandaue City on the night of August 14, 2024.

The jewelry stores in Calderon Street, Barangay Ermita, Cebu City were robbed on August 8, 2024.

The metallic gray Mitsubishi Adventure bearing plate number DAB 5200 was recovered in Zone Sibuyas, Barangay Paknaan.

A 31-year-old man identified as Marcial Ponesto, a native of Iligan City but residing in Barangay Pagsabungan in Mandaue City, was arrested in a joint operation of the Crime Investigation and Detection Group and the Carbon Police. 

Police also recovered backpacks that contained men’s clothes, a 9mm pistol, and a small safety vault.

Ponesto denied vehemently any participation in the robbery. He said that he was just asked to watch over the vehicle by a friend named “Gab,” a resident of Talisay City where the vehicle was from before it was parked in Paknaan.

Cebu City Police Office Director, Police Colonel Antonietto Cañete, said they have considered the case solved as five other suspects were identified already and that charges are up against them.
