The town of Oton in the Province of Iloilo has logged 223 dengue cases.
Oton is second on the list of Local Government Units (LGUs) in Iloilo Province with the most number of dengue cases.
Based on data of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO), the cases reached 223 from January 1, 2024 to August 10, 2024.
Barangay Abilay Norte has the most number of cases with 15 in July 2024. All patients have recovered from the ailment.
Following an increase in incidence, a cleanup activity in the said barangay is set on Fridays to search and destroy breeding grounds of mosquitoes, especially the Aedes aegypti mosquito identified as the carrier of dengue hemorrhagic fever.
However, according to Barangay Councilwoman Rose May Ortega, chairperson of the Committee on Health, a lack in supplies for residual spraying remains to be one of their challenges.
Passi City that has topped the list with 343 cases earlier declared a state of calamity.
As of posting time, dengue cases according to Iloilo PHO data have already reached 4,595 in the province, including suspected cases. Ten deaths were confirmed.
