A driver and passenger sustained minor injuries after their pickup truck fell into a 5-meter-deep ditch in Ocampo, Camarines Sur.
According to the Ocampo Municipal Police Station (MPS), the driver was returning to Iriga City when he reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel.
The vehicle veered into the opposite lane and eventually plunged into the ditch.
Both the driver and the passenger sustained minor injuries and are recovering in the hospital.
PCPL Jojie Ducot, Assistant Police Community Relations (PCR) of Ocampo MPS, advised drivers to take breaks if they feel drowsy to avoid similar accidents.
"Sa mga drivers po siguro po kung... natutungka po kita — siguro po mas mainam po na magpundo po kita nin diit na minuto, then magpahingalo sa gilid, bago po kita mag-deretso mag-drive, para po maiwasan ta po an mga arog po kaiyan na pangyayari," Ducot said.
In Baras, Catanduanes, a car driven by a couple fell into a two-meter deep ditch after the driver lost control while navigating a curve.
Both occupants were unharmed.
The vehicle was headed to Genitligan, Baras from Virac when the accident occurred.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Baras said the driver may have accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to overshoot the curve.
Kenny Edward Teston, Operations Warning Officer of MDRRMO Baras, advised motorists to always ensure that they are in the best of health and their vehicle is in good condition before hitting the road.
"Sa mga driver natin siguro lagi lang i-check ang ating mga sasakyan, siguraduhin na ito ay nasa kondisyon and also siyempre yung ano, yung mga driver dapat nasa kondisyon din," Teston said.
