A car rammed into a portion of a house in Barangay Mohon, Talisay City, Cebu and injured a 78-year-old resident.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, while the 78-year-old resident sustained wounds and contusions on different parts of his body.
The driver was believed to have suffered from a heart attack that led to the accident. The owner of the house identified as Jocelyn Paredes said that she was in her store when she noticed of a car that was plying the road speedily while in Sitio Libo, but headed instead toward the house at around 4 p.m. on August 29, 2024.
“Mibuto na ang kilid sa amoang balay, pwerteng kusoga,” Paredes said.
Paredes’ 78-year-old father was preoccupied with boiling water at that time.
In an investigation done by the City of Talisay Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA), the 41-year-old driver was heading for Barangay Tungkil in Minglanilla town.
“Matud sa mga nakasaksi, nahibung na lang sila nga murag nikalit lang og ikis-ikis ang iyang dagan, didto sya paingon sa balay. Gani pagka-igo sa bungbong sa balay, may pagkalupâ man to ang balay, kining iyang left side sa sakyanan nga ligid nahu’g sa lupâ, hangtud nga na-left side down siya,” Jonathan Tumulak, CT-TODA chief, said.
Members of the Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and CT-TODA responded to the incident.
Greg Albeos Jr., assistant operation head of Talisay CDRRMO, said that the driver was already unresponsive when they arrived at the scene.
“Sadly pag-abot sa ospital na-pronounce na sa doktor, nakita nga possible cardiac arrest, taas-taas ang iyang gilanasan or giagian nga road,” Albeos said.
The car was taken to the impounding area of the Talisay City Hall.
According to the Talisay City Traffic Police, the owner of the house and the family of the driver have already reached a settlement.
