A bangus dealer at the Magsaysay Fish Market in Dagupan City sold only a few of his fish by late morning, forcing him to reduce prices as few customers visit the market due to persistent rain.
As of 11 a.m. on September 3, 2024, Allan Doria, a bangus dealer, had only sold a small portion of his stock.
His trays of bangus, sourced from Western Pangasinan, sat unsold as he waited for buyers from neighboring towns.
"Suplay, okay lang naman. Kaso nga lang, gawa ng ulan, kaunti ang buyer," Doria said.
To attract more customers, he lowered his prices to P135-140 per kilo from P145.
By noon, a buyer named Marilou Mira from San Fabian arrived to purchase bangus.
Mira, who runs a stall in Bayambang, typically sells around 100 kilos of mixed fish each day.
"Ang tinitinda ko sa isang araw—100 kilos pero sari-sari na po 'yun, halo-halo na 'yun," she said.
Another buyer, Jackson Pinlac, ordered smaller-sized bangus, but he clarified that it was not a forced harvest.
"Sinadyang hinarvest kasi ‘yung size ng order namin, pang-bangus silog. Maliliit talaga," Pinlac said.
Meanwhile, other seafood prices at the market include squid at P180 per kilo, palapal at P180 per kilo, tamban at ₱80 per kilo, and both tahong and talaba at P60 per kilo. A large fish called barracuda is available for over P1,000.
