Mandatory evacuation of residents in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental within the permanent danger zone has been ordered.
The City Government of Canlaon issued Executive Order No. 63, Series of 2024, on September 10, 2024 that ordered the mandatory evacuation of residents within the four-kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to heightened seismic activity at Kanlaon Volcano.
“By virtue of the powers vested in me by law, I hereby order the immediate mandatory evacuation of residents living within the 4-kilometer [radius] Permanent Danger Zone due to the imminent threat posed by Kanlaon Volcano. This mandatory evacuation is effective immediately upon the issuance of this Executive Order,” Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas said.
Alert Level 2 over Kanlaon Volcano indicated of increasing unrest, which may lead to pyroclastic flows, ash fall, and other hazards, that pose immediate threat to residents within the four-kilometer PDZ.
“It is the responsibility of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Canlaon City to ensure the safety and protection of its residents in vulnerable areas,” the EO said.
The Canlaon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is tasked to facilitate the safe and orderly transfer of residents to the designated evacuation centers located outside the danger zone, the EO also said.
Canlaon City Police and other law enforcement agencies have also been directed to assist in the enforcement of the evacuation order and ensure that no unauthorized persons enter the evacuated areas within the PDZ, the EO further said.
