At least 45 families were displaced after strong waves spawned by monsoon rains hit the coastal area of Barangay Maasin in Zamboanga City dawn on Friday, September 13, 2024.
According to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the families affected are taking shelter temporarily at the Maasin covered court and at the Ayuda Badjao Center.
The local government has already provided necessary relief assistance to the families.
Based on assessment and profiling, six houses were destroyed while 11 others were damaged.
Meanwhile, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) also reported that the building of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on R.T. Lim Boulevard also incurred minor damage after it was hit by a wooden motorized watercraft, known locally as “jungkong”, amid heavy rains and strong winds on Thursday, September 12.
