A transport group has threatened to hold a massive protest action if the government will continue its plan to phase traditional public utility vehicles out.

In an interview with GMA Super Radyo Davao, Transmission-Piston Southern Mindanao Region spokesperson, Larry Argilles, said the government has no concrete solutions for drivers who will be affected by the Public Transport Modernization Project (PTMP).

The group also said several drivers will lose their livelihood if the High Priority Bus System will be pushed through in Davao City.

The national government has maintained earlier that the PUV Modernization Program (PUVMP) will continue.

Started in 2017, the PUVMP aims to replace jeepneys with vehicles that have at least a Euro 4-compliant engine to lessen pollution. It also aims to replace units that are no longer considered roadworthy.
