Authorities have expressed worry over the series of road accidents in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.
Since Sunday, September 29, 2024, four road accidents were recorded where two were killed and several others were injured.
The latest incident involved a 63-year-old woman who died after she was hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Barangay Molugan.
According to a witness, the woman was crossing the street when she was hit by the speeding vehicle.
“Sa kakusog, nasira gud among pertahan pag tan-aw namo diha naligid na gikan didto sa pedestrian paingon diha ang babae nalagpot na doble iyang kuan ba,” a witness, Vergie Rosales, said.
Police said the driver may not have noticed the victim as it was raining hard at that time.
“Ngitngit pud kay dili man gud siya well-lighted area mao to hinungdan nga nabanggaan siya,” El Salvador City Police Chief, Lt. Col. Patrick Dalangin, said.
Authorities said the family of the victim and the driver have reportedly reached an agreement.
Police added that the lack of road markings, early warning signs, and streetlights may have caused the road accidents.
The straight road from Barangay Molugan to Barangay Taytay is also considered as accident-prone area.
Police are already coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to address the problem.
